How much does radio advertising cost in Spain?
Radio advertising costs vary by station, time slot and geographic reach. On top national stations (SER, COPE, Onda Cero), a 30-second spot in prime morning drive time can cost between €3,000 and €8,000 per insertion. On national stations with lower audience, between €800 and €2,500. On regional stations, €200-800/insertion. On local stations, from €50-300. Campaigns are typically sold in weekly packages with multiple insertions throughout the day.
What is the ideal duration for a radio spot?
The most commonly used standard duration is the 20 or 30-second spot, which represents the optimal balance between cost, impact and listener attention span. 20-second spots are more economical and suitable for direct response messages. 30-second spots allow for slightly more development of the message or brand story. For brand image or launch campaigns with larger budgets, 45" and 60" options exist. Section sponsorships are shorter (5-10 seconds) and are delivered by the presenter.
Which radio stations have the largest audience in Spain?
According to the EGM (General Media Study), the general-interest stations with the largest audiences in Spain are SER (Cadena Ser), COPE, Onda Cero and RNE Radio 1. In music radio, Los 40, Europa FM, Cadena Dial and M80 Radio stand out. Regionally, stations like RAC1 (Catalonia), Euskadi Irratia (Basque Country) and Canal Sur Radio (Andalusia) carry significant weight. The right station choice depends on the sociodemographic profile and target territory of each campaign.
How is radio audience measured?
Radio audience in Spain is measured primarily through the EGM (General Media Study), a multi-purpose study managed by AIMC that publishes quarterly data (waves). The EGM measures cumulative audience (yesterday, last week) by station, time slot and sociodemographic profile. Additionally, the General Radio Study (EGR) provides minute-by-minute audience data. These are the sources MediaPulse uses to plan GRPs and reach for radio campaigns.
Can radio advertising be targeted by city?
Yes. Spain has an extensive network of regional and local stations that allows highly geographically targeted radio campaigns. In addition to local broadcasting on city-specific stations, the major national chains (SER, COPE, Onda Cero) have regional and local breakouts in their news programmes and morning shows, enabling spots to be inserted only in specific cities or regions at lower cost than national broadcast.
